It’s simpler than you might think
On a regular telephone, your voice travels as an analog signal along telephone cabling from you to your caller. Basically, it’s a sound wave. With VoIP, your analog voice is converted to a digital signal by a small box called an analog telephone adaptor, or ATA. Now your voice can be transmitted through the internet as digital data – just like any other information that travels the net. When it gets to the other end – to your mom’s phone, or the business you are calling – the digital data is converted back to analog and your voice comes out the earpiece, just as it went in. There’s no time lapse, no weird beeps and clicks – it’s just like you called on a regular phone.
So how is VoIP, better than regular phone service? There are numerous advantages to VoIP, technology, but here are three that we think will matter most to you.
- VoIP converts your voice to a digital signal, so it can travel the internet.
This means sending your voice around the world is easier and cheaper than by regular telephone.
- VoIP is not regulated in the same way as the traditional telephone system.
You don’t pay extra charges for things like touch-tone service or network fees on your long distance calling.
- VoIP technology makes it possible to use your VoIP phone and local VoIP phone number anywhere in the world, as long as you have access to a high speed internet connection.
VoIP... Perhaps you know the term

Now you're ready to learn more
VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol,
and it represents an exciting new advance in
telephone technology. Instead of channeling your
phone conversations over traditional telephone
lines, VoIP transmits your calls through your
high speed internet connection. And that opens
up a whole new world of possibilities.
With the introduction of nexiVoIP, Nexicom
customers have ready access to a phone service
that can significantly reduce long distance bills.
nexiVoIP users can also take advantage of
an impressive array of convenient calling features,
at no additional cost. nexiVoIP is simple to set
up, simple to use and simple to afford.
Simple to set up. Simple to use.
Don’t let the high tech name fool you – VoIP is easy to set up and easy to use.
You don’t have to purchase any new equipment or change any wiring. We provide you
with the only additional piece of hardware you need – a small box called an analog
telephone adaptor or ATA – and walk you through the very simple process of setting it up.

If you already have high speed internet service,
you have a modem plugged into your phone
jack. All that’s required to transform your regular
phone into a VoIP phone is to plug the ATA into
your modem (or wireless router, in the case of a
wireless network) and then plug your phone into
the ATA. That’s it. You can continue to use your
telephone like always.
It doesn’t matter if the person you are calling is
a VoIP user or not – when you dial, their phone
will ring as usual, and vice versa.
(If you don’t already have high speed
internet, you’ll need to get it before you can use
VoIP. Nexicom offers an excellent high speed
service, available at a discount if you bundle it
with nexiVoIP – see the pricing chart)
